OLC Teachers must meet one of the following requirements:

Hello! I am Lori Young. I have been teaching on and off since 2007. I started as a substitute teacher in a preschool in Panama City, Florida. My family and I moved to the Palm Coast area in 2008. I became a classroom volunteer for kindergarten, 2nd, and 5th grade. Toward the end of the school year in 2009, I took on a group of students that were in danger of being held back. The teacher encouraged me to become a kindergarten teacher. That clicked for me as the path I was most interested in. I continued working with preschool students and then in 2015, became a substitute teacher with Flagler County Schools, where I worked with every grade level from kindergarten through twelfth grade. I also worked with students that had left the district but were enrolled in a program to gain their GED. I realized I most enjoyed working with upper-level students and with students that struggle with subjects like math. I struggled with math throughout school, so I feel that is where I am most needed. Today, I am the math and science teacher with Ocean Learning Center and very much enjoy sitting down with my students in a one-on-one situation where I can take the time to explain math or science concepts to them in a way that makes it easy for them to grasp and understand.

I am a teacher apprentice to Mrs. Lori, supporting instruction in both science and math. I love working with students and helping them build confidence and understanding in these subjects. I am currently enrolled in college studying psychology, with the goal of becoming a child trauma therapist. In addition to assisting with math and science instruction, I also support classroom operations through administrative responsibilities, including managing and maintaining the gradebook.
Shifting instructional focus from traditional approaches and environments to personalizing a student's learning experience. OLC Facilitators adapt to a student's needs by including the learner in decisions about how and what they learn and how that learning is assessed. Facilitators respect and accommodate individual needs, interests, abilities, and experiences. Students learn in a warm home away from home environment.
As a private school, student IEP/504 is not mandated. However, as part of our mission statement, all OLC students receive documented accommodations and modifications as needed.

Logan's Poem
I shall thank the teachers for what they had done this year.
They have helped me grow like the lush green trees in the summer time.
I thought I would be like yucky squash never getting above where I am supposed to be.
When I was in 5th, I always failed my tests like when water evaporates.
Teachers poured in a new glass when I came to this school. Everyone was nice to me. I thank you all for changing my opinion on school and for helping me to get up that hill.
-Logan
Thank You Mom
Thank you mom for raising me even when it was hard without dad. Thank you for sending me to this school. I had made many friends including (student), (student), (student), and (student). Thank you teachers: Mr. Jason, Mrs. Heidi, Ms. Caitlyn, Mrs. Keiper, and Mrs. Scott! This school year was a new adventure for me. I didn't just learn- I had made so many connections throughout this year.
